不飽和聚酯樹脂制品在第二次世界大戰(zhàn)以前尚處于研制開發(fā)階段，大戰(zhàn)期間首先應用于軍事航空領(lǐng)域，在1941年，美國科研人員用丙烯醇去的不飽和性質(zhì)的丙烯基樹脂，有用順丁烯二酸和反丁烯二酸去的不飽和性質(zhì)的聚酯。次年，用玻璃布增強制得第一批聚酯玻璃鋼雷達天線罩。其質(zhì)量輕便、強度高、透微波性能好，制造簡便，迅速用于戰(zhàn)爭，現(xiàn)實了其優(yōu)異的性能。
